Dear Patrick Jane: You are a very, very lucky man.

The Mentalist has cast former Entourage star Emmanuelle Chriqui in the role of Loraliei Martins, a Las Vegas cocktail waitress who will recur on the CBS drama as a love interest for Jane, appearing on this May's finale and at least five episodes of season five as well.

Chriqui is best known for portraying Sloan on Entourage throughout that HBO comedy's run.

Sloan McQuewick

The Mentalist airs a new-school based episode tomorrow night. Check out the official promo now for "Something's Rotten in Redmund."

Lies, sex, drugs and hidden cameras. "Something's Rotten In Redmund" had it all, even a baby on the way.

That's right. Rigsby and Sarah had a little boy and I loved how Cho admitted the tyke wasn't really adorable. The fact is, most newborns aren't all that cute.

The look on Jane's face as he saw Rigsby's son was simply heartbreaking. He was happy for his friend but it obviously brought back some painfully sweet memories. I love those moments that remind us how much Patrick Jane has lost.

Jane and Lisbon on the Case

But let's go back to the beginning. The case of the week was fun. I loved watching Jane run around the high school causing trouble. I wondered how often Patrick Jane was sent to the Principal's office back in the day. I have no doubt he was a trouble maker, but I wondered if he was more like Lisbon described herself in this The Mentalist quote:

I didn't say I never did anything bad. I just never got caught. | permalink

How good was Jane at not getting caught?

And I thought Jane's assessment of Lisbon was correct. I could just picture her in one of those silly band uniforms with the big hat.

The Principal was a little over the top in his tyranny but it was certainly entertaining. Jane's reveal of his bathroom cameras was funny, with him throwing open the cabinets to reveal the TV screens and yelling "pervy, perv, perv."

Principal Snyder had some nerve asking Lisbon, a law enforcement officer, to keep his illegal cameras a secret. The look on her face in response was perfect.

Jane's always a little different around kids, even teenagers. He never talks down to them and seems to see them for who they are. That said, causing the nervous kid to hyperventilate and pass out before the play wasn't very nice.

Grace seems to be getting all of the final interviews with the murderers lately. Mrs. Austin wasn't quite as crazy as some we've seen recently, which is saying something since she did slam a baseball bat into a man's head.

Of course, she was pretty warped if she had to ask Grace "I love him and he loves me. Is that wrong?" Well, you're 35 and he's 16 and your student so... yeah!

I may not have thought that last week's episode was one of the better ones this season, but The Mentalist completely redeemed itself this week, as Jane ran around searching for the bad kids of high school. Do you think Jane was one of the bad kids, did he stay under the radar or was he never in one place long enough to get caught?

On the season finale of The Mentalist, Patrick Jane will meet a new love interest.

On the May 3 episode of this CBS hit, meanwhile, Teresa Lisbon will come across a former flame: TV Guide reports that Kenny Johnson (The Shield, Sons of Anarchy) will guest star as Greg Taybeck, Lisbon's high school squeeze who gets involved in an investigation.

"She ran away [from that relationship] to find a different life," Executive Producer Bruno Heller tells the site. "So, she stops and has to reassess her life and look at the paths not taken. Her boyfriend has kids, and she doesn't. So, how does she feel about that?"

Heller adds that the episode will center around the "joys and regrets" of realizing where one is in life.

The Mentalist returns with a new installment on April 26.

The Mentalist Review: Rising From The Ashes

If Patrick Jane spent most of the last episode of The Mentalist searching for the bad kids in high school, he spent most of his time in "Ruby Slippers" chasing down one very unique witness.

One thing about Glenda's story sounded off to me from the beginning. It was the fact that she said the missing heel was hers. Once she claimed she was wearing that bright blue, sequined gown in the alley, I was perplexed as to why she'd have ruby red shoes on. Glenda had better style than that and I simply couldn't get that out of my head.

Jane Investigates At a Cabaret

But even with that thought, the ending still surprised me. I never expected Archie to still be alive. They had a charred body and matching dental records for goodness sake. Who would think it wasn't him?

Having Glenda work at a funeral home and a dentist on hand tied it all together in a way that enable the far-fetched twist to make sense.

The singing of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at the conclusion was a little over the top, though. Still, it allowed for a much more hopeful ending than I'd expected and I'm thankful because Lisbon was right, believing that Archie cuffed himself to a car and set himself on fire was entirely too gruesome and depressing a thought.

On a side note, did anyone else notice how jumpy Jane was in the alley in the beginning? Although it wasn't all that long ago that he ended up almost drowned when he went poking around by himself at a crime scene. Perhaps he's learned that asking Lisbon to cover him isn't such a bad idea.

I enjoyed this episode because everyone played their parts so well. Jane's interactions with the drag queens was perfect. Having grown up as a carnie, it made sense that Jane would be the most comfortable and accepting.

Even Rigsby grew more comfortable as time went on and watching Glenda at CBI I couldn't help but think that she had better legs than most females that I know.

Speaking of Rigsby, I liked his quiet disgust when dealing with Rick. You could tell he just wanted to slap the guy at certain points in their conversation. His level of disgust was matched by Jane's feelings towards the father and his aggressive education techniques and Cho making sure the cuffs hurt as he arrested sleazy Gabriel.

And if Cho and Summer couldn't already be more adorable, they had to add puppies to the mix. Puppies! Loved it when Summer, in this The Mentalist quote, tried to convince Cho they needed Pug pup.

He's like you Kimball. He's all fierce on the outside and like a softy on the inside and he's got this squishy little face. | permalink

How could he resist that pitch?

But after all of the fun of having so many suspects that Lisbon thought they'd need to convert the janitor's closet into a holding area, I was thoroughly disappointed with one thing: How could they force Lisbon on stage during a drag performance and not show us what happened?!? Then they had Jane make a quip about flexibility and left it all to our meager imaginations. That was simply cruel.

With only three more episode left, what are you hoping to see before the season runs out?

The Mentalist Review: A Different Life

Who hasn't thought about a different life? Almost everyone, and Teresa Lisbon is no exception.

"So Long, And Thanks For All the Red Snapper" had Teresa running into an old love with Patrick Jane at her side. I'm sure she would have planned that differently if she could.

Jane & Lisbon Investigate a Surfer's Death

Greg, Lisbon's ex-fiance, now has a wife and three kids and I couldn't help but wonder if Teresa looked at their family and thought that they could have been hers if things had gone differently.

But then again, Greg's life certainly wasn't paradise. Greta cheated on him with a surfer dude. That had to hurt.

I was really hoping to learn more about Lisbon's past in this episode, but we got very little. They were 17. They got engaged. He felt Teresa lied to him and Teresa broke it off. That's pretty light on the details overall.

But Jane was right, Greg was never the guy for Lisbon and even she agreed. I could only imagine what Lisbon was like at 17 but Greg said she looked strong and happy now. I'm sure the motherless 17-year old dealing with an alcoholic father and a bunch of wild brothers was anything but content.

I loved it when Jane called her intense and particular and then gave her examples of each. Wouldn't it be great if Teresa found someone who appreciated those qualities in her?  Hmm…

One of my favorite moments of the night was watching Jane chase crabs on the beach. For a man so haunted by his horrifying past, it's such a treat to see him act like a kid sometimes. Not to mention he was seriously cute.

But if Lisbon was revisiting lost love, Cho was losing his current one.

I've loved Summer and I've enjoyed that we've gotten to see a whole different side of Cho since he's been with her, but I knew it wasn't going to last. Summer's simply too reckless. She lied too often and too easily and we won't even get into the drug use. As Cho told her...

I'm a cop. How did you think this was going to go? | permalink

She's got a huge heart but that didn't stop her from breaking both hers and Cho's.

What this storyline highlighted was what an incredible man Kimball Cho is. Most guys would have walked out on Summer as she sat there crying, high on cocaine, having just lied and stolen drugs - but not Cho.

He calmed down and came up with a plan that gave Summer a second chance to get her life back on track. It just won't be with him and, sadly, that's probably for the best.

All in all the case of the week really didn't hold my interest. Chasing the treasure seemed silly but Lance's answers were amusing. He said he only wanted to talk to Jay. Well, did he usually do his talking with a hammer? And he was shocked that Jay wanted half the treasure.  Umm.. the guy did haul it up from the ocean floor for him. Was wanting his half really such a shock?

In this The Mentalist quote, Van Pelt put it most succinctly…

Lance: I don't know what came over me.
Grace: It's called greed. | permalink

So were you a satisfied or disappointed with Lisbon's lost love? Do you want Summer back? Only two episodes left this season. What do you want to see from The Mentalist?

The Mentalist Review: Anniversary of Evil

$

Last week's The Mentalist was obviously the last bit of light hearted fun we're going to see for a while. "Red Rover, Red Rover" had Jane taking the plunge into the dark side and it's anyone's guess if he'll make it back out.

Red John was just cruel, but I suppose that's a prerequisite for a maniacal serial killer. As if leaving an anniversary card to celebrate the murder of Jane's wife and child weren't enough, he also sent a messenger.

Lisbon & Jane Investigate Dennis

The little girl was so sweet it was almost creepy. Seeing the child with the red face painted on her hand was rather horrifying. I can only imagine that Red John chose her because she bore a resemblance to Jane's daughter.

I loved that Jane's first concern was for the child. He first asked if the man who approached her had done anything to her, then he hypnotized her so she'd forget she'd ever seen Red John.

As much as Wainwright and Lisbon were right - further questioning might reveal something - Jane was adamant. His own little girl died at the hands of Red John. He'd protect Haley any way he could, even if it meant letting Red John go.

Torturing Jane seemed like such a personal vendetta for Red John. Why wasn't killing his family enough? Was it Jane's crusade to take him down that has made this into some sort of twisted game for the killer?

Of course, the man is a psychopath so finding understandable answers might not be so easy.

Jane's meal of Bloody Marys with the empty chairs meant for his family was heart-breakingly sad yet macabre all at once.

The murder of the week mirrored the horror and darkness that Jane was suffering but I have to ask: who lets a coworker strip them down, handcuff them and lock them in a metal box? What club could possibly be worth that?

When Jane hit Ben in the head with the shovel, I flinched. He's lucky he didn't kill the man right there. And I love that Grace was the one person who said she thought Ben deserved what he got. She's not quite the naive girl we met at the beginning of the series. Of course being engaged to a psychopath's apprentice will do that to you.

Was Jane really trying to catch a killer or was he looking to get kicked out of the CBI? It appeared that suspension wasn't good enough for him. Jane's cruel streak reared its ugly head and he pushed Wainwright until he snapped.

Poor Lisbon was in total shock. Her partner's spiraling out of control and there wasn't anything she could do to stop it.

So was the thought of never catching Red John too much for Jane? As he said in this The Mentalist quote:

If you don't get the bad guy then what's the point of all this? | permalink

Had this evil game of cat and mouse simply gone on too long? If Jane crosses over to the dark side, will he find his way back? With the season finale on its way, we'll have to hold our breath and wait for what comes next.

The Mentalist Season Finale Preview: Hitting Rock Bottom

The Mentalist will air on Sundays this fall. That's one change to which fans will need to adjust.

But a far more pressing concern for viewers of this CBS drama? The state of Patrick Jane. He appears to plummet toward rock bottom in the following network trailer for tonight's Mentalist Season 4 finale.

"The Crimson Hat" will find Jane in Las Vegas and introduce him to Emmanuelle Chriqui's Lorelei Martins, a cocktail waitress who will become a love interest both on the final and beyond.

Check out the official teaser now and visit TV Fanatic later this evening for a detailed review:

The Mentalist Review: A Wicked Game

As many fans suspected after last week's episode, Patrick Jane was playing a long con. A very long con, and all in the hopes of luring out Red John. But in "The Crimson Hat," who really got played?

I loved the opening sequence where Jane meets Lorelei. Even the music set the mood, as Chris Isaac's Wicked Game played in the background.

Jane Meets Lorelei

When Oscar told Jane that the dead mother he claimed to have spoken to had actually wasn't dead - but had run off with her aerobics instructor years ago - I literally laughed out loud. Jane's response? "That explains why she was so easy to contact."

Jane loves telling people what they want to hear. Of course, this time - along with getting paid handsomely for it - he also nearly got both of his legs broken.

Apparently Red John had a generous streak. If he had to send a messenger, he couldn't have sent one more gorgeous. Then he ordered her to pay Jane's bail, sleep with him and cook him breakfast. What more could you ask for?

Patrick finally ended up in bed with someone and it ended up being a Red John disciple. A stunningly beautiful disciple, but still. That definitely tarnished the moment.

Unfortunately, Patrick didn't share his plan to snare Red John with anyone, including Lisbon. Teresa looked worried sick sitting in that church, praying for guidance on how to help Jane. It had been six long months and for once, I think even Jane felt guilty.

Horror was the only word to describe the look on Jane's face when he realized that the price for being allowed into Red John's inner sanctum was Teresa's death.

From the look on Lisbon's face I couldn't tell if Jane had let her in on the plan when he walked into the CBI. Then, I realized that her shocked expression was due to his words, not the gun he pulled on her. In this The Mentalist quote, Jane told Lisbon,

Good luck Teresa. Love you. | permalink

... just before he pulled the trigger. Apparently it was the last two words that threw her.

So do you think Darcy's the mole in the FBI? Red John only said he had a friend there. Once Darcy blew the whistle lots of other agents would have had the same information and could have passed it along. But what made Darcy so suspicious that she went down to the morgue to measure a faceless corpse? Who would even think to do that?

In the end, I wondered if Jane was going to lose a finger and I was sure they'd open that limo and find it empty. Instead Darcy opened that door to find the dead but horror-filled eyes of Luther Wainwright. Oh, what a terrifying way to die.

From the moment Wainwright came on the scene I figured he was either Red John's next victim or another disciple. I really wish I had been wrong.

When Lisbon finally found a battered Patrick Jane what struck me was that she didn't touch him. She actually sat a couple of feet away as she asked if he was okay. He's the one who reached out for her hand to hold.

Will we see Lorelei again next season? Why was Jane so sure he could make her talk?  Will the rest of the CBI team forgive Jane for his long con and how it ended?  Is Lisbon now a target nd who in Hell is Red John?

The Mentalist managed to keep the Red John saga going for another season and delivered yet another twist. A wicked game, indeed.

The Mentalist Season 5: Darkness Ahead

Be warned, CBS viewers: if you think Patrick Jane hit rock bottom on this week's The Mentalist Season 4 finale, creator Bruno Heller has some disturbing news.

The Mentalist Season 4 Finale Photo

"We’re certainly going to see a little more of that hard darker side of him," Heller previews to Entertainment Weekly. "That’s one of Simon Baker’s great assets as an actor, he can play both charming and dark at the same time. The show is not going to turn into a much darker show, but that character will show more of those colors. We’re getting closer to the meat of what the show is about."

As for Red John? Heller says it's conceivable fans have already met him, and is also prepared to disappoint many followers once the reveal is actually made.

"The trick is going to be - and this is coming - bringing the audience along and making them second guess themselves and ask, 'Is that him? Is that him?' Red John ultimately is just a man - whenever you see the great criminals reduced to the flesh it’s sort of disappointing. I have two seasons or so to make it come true. I can guarantee that people will be disappointed."

What Was the Best Love Triangle of 2011-2012?

$
0
0

Love triangles. Whether you love them or love to hate them, you can't get away from them. They are a TV staple.

So... do Stefan, Elena, and Damon on The Vampire Diaries make your blood run hot? Do you root for Jack or Daniel to end up with Revenge's diabolical Emily? Were you thrilled to see the end of Josh and that triangle on Castle, especially since it paved the way for Beckett and Castle to end up against his front door?

Love triangles draw us in, break our hearts, and make us cheer. When done well, they should have us doing all of the three.

Which was your favorite love triangle of the 2011-2012? We analyze a few below and then turn it over to our readers...

-------------------------------------------

The Vampire Diaries: Stefan/Elena/Damon - Who should be Elena's one and only? With both pairs having enough heat to melt your TV screen, how do you choose?

Revenge: Daniel/Emily/Jack - At the end of the season, Daniel and Emily's engagement had been called off, but will they stay apart now that a very pregnant Amanda has come back to claim Jack? Looks like this triangle just became a quadrangle. And can Emily keep either man once they know her true identity?

Castle: Castle/Beckett/Josh - We always knew that Castle and Beckett were meant to be together but we also admit that Dr. Motorcycle Boy was easy on the eyes. In the end, Josh may have gotten in a punch but Castle got the girl.

Coffee Talking

Fairly Legal: Justin/Kate/Ben - We were all for a reconciliation between smoldering once-marrieds Justin and Kate but then two things happened.  First, we found out that Justin had cheated. Then we met Ben. The smarmy attorney who once came across like an arrogant jerk now appears completely besotted with the gorgeous mediator. Oh, who do we root for now?

Gossip Girl: Chuck/Dan/Blair - Blair finally made her decision to close out the latest season. But fans may never stop arguing over this one.

The Good Wife: Peter/Alicia/Will - Peter's dalliances with hookers definitely won him the lousy husband award but is there a reason why Alicia's stuck with him? We'll admit the power trip thing is damned attractive but there's certainly chemistry and respect between Will and Alicia. Now that she's tried both, which will she choose?

Rookie Blue: Sam/Andy/Luke - Now that Sam and Andy have admitted to their feelings (finally!) is Luke completely out of the picture? And when he comes back from his task force will he be hooking up with one of Andy's friends at the 15th?

Andy and Sam

True Blood: Eric/Sookie/Bill - Can't get enough of vampires in love... or at least lust? Sookie's had a love connection with both Bill and Eric but now that her portrayer Anna Paquin is pregnant will the show steer away from the books. Could we soon see a human/fairy/vampire baby? So who would be the Daddy to a pair of tiny little fangs?

The Mentalist: Van Pelt/Rigsby/Sarah - Grace ended their fling for the better of both their careers but they still keep shooting one another those doe-eyed looks across the CBI bullpen. However, with Van Pelt trying to get past having to kill her psychotic fiance and Rigsby and Sarah sharing a baby, will these CBI agents ever find their way back together?

Did we leave any out? Let us know in the Comments and vote now between the options given: Who comprised the best love triangle of the past TV season?

Couples Commentary: Will They? Won't They? Should They?

$
0

When Castle and Beckett hit the sheets - or was it the doorframe? - on the Castle season finale, fans swooned as one of the most popular will they/won't they couples on TV settled on the former: They will. They did.

Bubbling sexual chemistry is a staple of TV, but taking two characters from flirting to bedding has often met with mixed results.

Will it work out for Castle and Beckett? We'll be glued to the screen this fall to find out. Should these other teetering tandems go all the way? Or remain friends/co-workers? Weigh in now!

-------------------------------------------

Tony and Ziva (NCIS) - They're more than just partners, but not quite a couple. Tony and Ziva, known as Tiva by diehard shippers, have done this dance for several seasons.

Will Tony & Ziva Ever Take The Leap?

Can the kick-ass former Mossad assassin and the quick witted ex-homicide detective figure out how to balance their work relationship with a love connection?  Will this potential couple ever deliver?

More importantly, SHOULD THEY?

Castle and Beckett (Castle) - An entire fandom could be heard screaming in delight at their TV screens last May when four seasons of love and lust culminated with a heated kiss against the door and Beckett's fingers entwined with Castle's as she led him to what we can only assume was his bedroom.

Will coupledom kill their incredible sexual tension? Or bring back the fun, flirty banter that got lost in all of the angst of season four? Castle Season 5 kicks off in September and fans are holding their breath to see what happens as Castle and Beckett start the next chapter of their story.

ARE YOU GLAD THESE TWO ARE NOW TOGETHER?

Jane and Lisbon (The Mentalist) - It's been four long seasons since the tortured con man met the tough but beautiful CBI agent, yet hints at any love connection have been a long time coming.

Jane & Lisbon Investigate a Surfer's Death

Jane's still emotionally traumatized after his wife and daughter's brutal murder.  Will Teresa Lisbon be the one person who can help end his torment and heal his heart?

With Jane muttering a quick "love you" before pretending to shoot Lisbon and the two holding hands at the end of last season's finale, fans have more hope for this couple than ever before.

DO YOU WANT TO SEE THEM AS A COUPLE?

Jess and Nick (New Girl)- There's undeniable chemistry between Jess and her snarky bartender/roommate but should their friendship take a turn to romance?

With CeCe and Schmidt taking over the will they/won't they spot at the end of season one, our guess is that fans will have to wait a while to see Jess and Nick come together but we hope it happens... some day.

DO YOU?

Jeff and Annie (Community) -  The show may have never intended these two to be a couple but their obvious chemistry could not be denied. With three seasons of flirtations, hesitation, and jealousy behind them, SHOULD THESE TWO FINALLY TAKE THE HILARIOUS PLUNGE?

Did we forget about burgeoning couples? Vote above on the duos included and then leave a Comment below with pairings you want to see move ahead?
